The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA), Shift Technology (Paris) and EXL (New York), have launched a new collaboration to build a national fraud detection and investigation platform for the Australian insurance industry.

The platform is being developed in partnership with the ICA’s counter-fraud division, the Insurance Crime Intelligence Network of Australia (ICINA), and will enable insurers to securely share fraud patterns, coordinate investigations, and identify emerging threats. Initial implementation will focus on motor insurance claims, with development expected to begin in early 2026.

The program will use advanced analytics to deliver real-time alerts for suspicious activity and facilitate joint investigations by participating insurers. It follows similar association-led counter-fraud initiatives in the U.K., France, Canada, Hong Kong, and Singapore, many of which use Shift’s fraud detection technology.
